  22. The following discussion applies equally to mProfessional Page,
  23. mPagesetterII and mOffice Page.  For clarity, only mProfessional Page is
  24. mentioned by name from now on.

  27. While a hard drive is strongly recommended for using mGold Disk Type
  28. fonts, it is possible to use the fonts without a hard drive.  The fonts
  29. cannot be used directly from the original disks (or from copies of the
  30. originals); you must first install them onto other diskettes using the
  31. supplied mFloppy_Install utility. 
  32.  
  33. Professional Page requires all Compugraphic fonts to be in one drawer (as
  34. they are on its own mOutline Fonts diskette); thus, each Professional Page
  35. document is limited to as many Compugraphic fonts as will fit on one
  36. diskette.  Different documents, however, may use different font
  37. diskettes.
  38.  
  39. The mFloppy_Install utility builds font disks for use with Professional
  40. Page; all are given the name mExtraFonts.  You may create as many of these
  41. disks as you like, each with a different combination of fonts, but, as
  42. mentioned above, only one such disk may be in use at any given time.

  44. To run the mFloppy_Install utility, simply double-click on its icon, and
  45. answer the questions the program asks you.  Users with single-drive
  46. systems will be asked to switch diskettes a number of times as the
  47. program starts up.  Don't be discouraged; once the "Prepare to install
  48. fonts" message has been printed, things get a lot better.

  50. You can use mFloppy_Install to add to an existing mExtraFonts disk, as well
  51. as to create a new one.  You will be asked whether you want to do this.
  52. If you do, the program will ask you to insert an existing mExtraFonts disk
  53. to be updated.

  55. If you tell mFloppy_Install to create a new mExtraFonts disk, you will be
  56. asked to insert a blank diskette.  This diskette will be formatted if
  57. necessary; in any case, it will be completely erased, so be sure it
  58. doesn't contain anything you want to keep.

  61. Once you have created some mExtraFonts disks, here is how to use them.
  62. Each mExtraFonts disk contains an icon called mUse_This_Disk.  To use a
  63. particular font disk:
  64.  
  65. - First, remove any other mExtraFonts disks which may be in the system.
  66. - Insert the disk you want to use.
  67. - Double-click on the disk's icon.
  68. - Double-click on the icon for mUse_This_Disk.
  69.  
  70. Now, when you start Professional Page, it will use your mExtraFonts disk
  71. in place of its normal mOutline Fonts diskette.

  73. When you want to work on an existing document, be careful to use the
  74. correct mExtraFonts diskette; if you use the wrong one, some of the
  75. document's text may be changed from its correct font into Times Roman.

  78.                   mPseudo-italic and pseudo-bold Fonts
  79.  
  80. Please note that the mGold Disk Type packages (mDesigner, mDecorative, and
  81. mPublisher) contain only the roman font of each family.
  82.  
  83. For those font families which have italic styles, the additional fonts
  84. can be purchased separately from Gold Disk.  Some font families, such as
  85. script typefaces, are not meant to have italic styles and so for such
  86. families no italic font is available.

  88. If you have not purchased the italic font of a family, Professional Page
  89. is able to generate a pseudo-italic font (also known as an moblique font)
  90. by simply slanting the characters in the roman font.  The results aren't
  91. quite as good as using the true italic style, but many people find them
  92. adequate, and they have the advantage that they require much less disk
  93. space than the true italic fonts.  This is especially useful for floppy-
  94. only systems.

  96. Professional Page will only create a pseudo-italic font, however, for a
  97. typeface which is meant to have an italic style.
  98.  
  99. Unfortunately, these pseudo-italic fonts cannot be used with PostScript
  100. output devices.  To produce italic PostScript output it is necessary to
  101. purchase the appropriate true italic typefaces separately from Gold Disk.

  103. Of course, the above discussion also applies to bold and bold-italic
  104. styles, as well as to italic.

  107.                             mFutura Bold II
  108.  
  109. The mFutura Bold II font in the mVideo package is simply the bold style of
  110. mFutura II.  If you are purchasing both the mVideo package and other
  111. mFutura II styles, you do not need to purchase mFutura Bold II twice.
